Nurse Of The Week: Julia

In this article, Julia (@thenursingjourney), the featured nurse of the week, shares her own personal nursing journey and experiences!

  • Why did you want to be a nurse?

  • “I initially went into nursing because I wanted to pursue a career as a CRNA, but my passion comes from my dad who had a heart attack when I was younger and my sister who was diagnosed at 16 with idiopathic rheumatoid arthritis. Not only did this spark my desire to want to work in the medical field, but I also just simply love to give back and help others!”

  • At what stage of your nursing journey are you currently in?

  • “I graduated in August of 2017 with my bachelors in nursing and passed my nclex, so I’m Julia Filkins BSN, RN and I plan on going back to graduate school for my CRNA. I’m taking chemistry courses right now so I can apply for graduate school next summer.”

  • What do you find most rewarding about being a nurse?

  • “The most rewarding thing about being a nurse is when your patient and family say thank you and truly appreciate the hard work you put in, or when you stabilize a patient and save them!”
